CincyTech Research
Investment Thesis
CincyTech is a public-private, seed-stage venture investor based in Cincinnati, Ohio, founded in 2006. The firm partners with "innovative founders tackling the world's complex challenges," investing early to help transform novel research and technology into venture-worthy companies. Its stated mission is to disperse entrepreneurship and research-commercialization investment beyond traditional coastal venture hubs, positioning Southwest Ohio and the broader Midwest as a serious source of company creation. CincyTech evaluates opportunities on novel, defensible technology attacking an urgent, large market, and looks for founders it describes as "inseparable from their innovation."
Sector Focus
CincyTech invests across two primary verticals:
- Life sciences: gene therapy, drug delivery, precision medicine, medical devices, diagnostics, and therapeutics
- Digital and technology: enterprise software/SaaS, data infrastructure and orchestration, AI/ML-enabled platforms, industrial IoT, construction technology, and adtech
Representative portfolio themes include gene therapy (Armatus Bio, Myonexus Therapeutics), medical devices and diagnostics (Enable Injections, Eyas Medical Imaging, Genetesis, XII Medical), digital health (LainaHealth, Cordata Healthcare Innovations), data infrastructure (Astronomer, Tembo, Team Central), industrial IoT (Losant), and construction tech SaaS (STACK Construction Technologies).
Stage Focus
CincyTech is a dedicated seed-stage investor, with selective participation into Series A follow-ons for existing portfolio companies. It positions itself as one of the earliest institutional checks a Southwest Ohio or Midwest founder will take.
Check Size
Typical initial investment is in the $500K-$750K range, consistent with its seed focus. The firm can act as a lead investor but also participates alongside other seed and growth investors (e.g., its July 2026 investment in Ravee Optics was led by BIG Global Investment JSC, with CincyTech and the JobsOhio Growth Capital Fund participating).
Lead Tendency
CincyTech both leads and participates in rounds depending on the deal. It frequently co-invests with JobsOhio Growth Capital Fund and other Ohio-focused public-private capital programs.
Recent Activity
CincyTech closed a $34.5M fund in July 2026 (per Cincinnati Business Courier), its largest to date, dedicated to backing life sciences startups. That same month, it participated in a $6M seed round for Ravee Optics, a Dayton-area meta-optics startup building compact laser communication terminals for satellites, marking the firm's entry into the space economy. On the exit side, portfolio company Losant (industrial IoT platform) was acquired by SUSE in February 2026, and portfolio company Genetesis (medical device/diagnostics, backed also by Mark Cuban) sold its business assets to an undisclosed multibillion-dollar acquirer around the same period, after raising more than $40M over its life.
Portfolio Highlights
CincyTech's portfolio spans over 40 companies since 2006. Notable outcomes include IPOs (Akebia Therapeutics, Aerpio Pharmaceuticals) and acquisitions (Losant by SUSE; Genetesis; Myonexus Therapeutics by Sarepta; Assurex Health by Myriad; Ilesfay by Autodesk; Workflex Solutions by Nice, Ltd.; Sirrus Chemistry by Nippon Shokubai). Active, growth-stage portfolio companies include Astronomer (data orchestration), Cart.com (e-commerce enablement), and STACK Construction Technologies (construction SaaS).

CincyTech operates as a small investment partnership (Off, Morand, Kwiat, Rice as the core investment team) rather than a solo-GP or large investment-committee structure, with board oversight given its public-private funding structure.
Founder Preferences
CincyTech looks for "gifted founders" with novel, defensible technology, deep domain expertise (often out of research institutions or corporate R&D), and the ambition to build companies that are "meaningful, valuable, and durable" rather than opportunistic or trend-chasing.
Geographic Focus
CincyTech is explicitly regional, headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio (2900 Reading Rd. Ste. 410), and focused on Southwest Ohio and the broader Midwest as an underserved venture geography relative to coastal hubs.
