GFT Ventures Research
Investment Thesis
GFT Ventures (Global Frontier Technology Ventures) is an early-stage frontier technology-focused venture capital firm investing primarily in the US and Israel. Founded in March 2021 by Jeff Herbst (formerly of NVIDIA) and Jay Eum (formerly of Samsung Ventures and TransLink Capital), the firm backs category-leading startups developing disruptive technologies that solve the world's hardest problems. GFT describes its edge as operational: the partners bring three decades-plus of hands-on experience building and scaling companies in AI, data science, and accelerated computing, and they turbocharge portfolio companies with global relationships to early adopter partners and customers rather than capital alone.
Sector Focus
GFT organizes its thesis around three stated areas of interest: AI & Data Science, Autonomous Machines, and Other Frontier technology. In practice this spans applied AI infrastructure and agents (LinqAlpha, Go.AI, H2O.ai), generative AI platforms (BRIA, Higgsfield), robotics and autonomous systems (Anyware Robotics, Mars Auto, TuSimple historically), computer vision and ambient intelligence in healthcare (Artisight, Qortex), and blockchain/crypto infrastructure from an earlier era of the partners' investing (Figment, Terra, Klaytn, Provenance, Korbit). The firm's own framing is that AI, data science, and other frontier technologies have ushered in a new era of accelerated computing that is putting traditional business models at risk if they do not adapt, and GFT wants to back the startups driving that disruption.
Stage Focus
GFT invests at pre-seed, seed, seed extension, and Series A. Recent rounds show a clear pattern of leading or co-leading seed and Series A rounds (Anyware Robotics seed, Go.AI seed, Higgsfield Series A, BRIA Series A, LinqAlpha Series A) with selective follow-on participation into later rounds of existing portfolio companies (BRIA Series B).
Check Size
No specific check-size range is published on the firm's site or in secondary sources reviewed; observed round sizes GFT has led or co-led range from a $5M seed (Go.AI) to a $50M Series A (Higgsfield), suggesting a flexible check size scaled to round size and ownership target rather than a fixed band.
Lead Tendency
GFT frequently leads or co-leads the rounds it participates in: it led Anyware Robotics' $12M seed (March 2025), led Go.AI's $5M seed (November 2025), led Higgsfield's $50M Series A (September 2025), co-led BRIA's $24M Series A (February 2024) and later participated in BRIA's $40M Series B, co-led LinqAlpha's $22M Series A (July 2026), and led Qortex's $10M investment (November 2023) and Mars Auto's $12M Series A (May 2022).
Recent Activity
GFT Ventures closed an oversubscribed $140M inaugural Fund I in September 2023. As of its Q1 2025 investor update, the firm reported roughly 50% of committed capital still available for deployment and highlighted increasing conviction in "Physical AI" (robotics), with Anyware Robotics representing the fund's third investment in that domain. The firm has continued deploying capital through 2025 and into 2026, most recently co-leading LinqAlpha's $22M Series A in July 2026 and leading Go.AI's $5M seed round in November 2025 and Higgsfield's $50M Series A in September 2025. No Fund II has been publicly announced as of this research.
Portfolio Highlights
GFT's current active portfolio (per its Portfolio page) includes Anyware Robotics (industrial mobile robotics), Artisight (AI ambient intelligence for hospitals), Avelis Health (payment integrity for self-insured employers), BRIA (responsible visual generative AI), Daash (AI competitive intelligence), Figment (blockchain infrastructure), Mars Auto (autonomous trucking in South Korea), and Unblocked (loyalty and fan engagement). The firm's Prior Investments page (attributable to the partners' pre-GFT track record at NVIDIA Ventures, Samsung Ventures, and TransLink Capital, and now folded into GFT's public history) lists 35 additional companies with notable IPO exits including Carbonite, DivX, Inphi, Coupang, SoFi, TuSimple, AnalogicTech, and GCT Semiconductor, and M&A exits including Chartboost, Elemental Technologies (acquired by AWS), Keyhole (became Google Earth), and NaturalMotion (acquired by Zynga).

Decision Process
GFT operates as a partnership led by two founding managing partners (Herbst and Eum) alongside Partner Ivy Nguyen, rather than a solo-GP structure.
Founder Preferences
GFT explicitly seeks technical founders who understand the power of deep technology and are building category-leading, disruptive products. The firm markets itself as founder-first, offering operational experience, global corporate relationships, and "intros that move the needle" rather than passive capital.
Geographic Focus
GFT invests primarily in the US and Israel, consistent with the backgrounds of its partners (NVIDIA and Samsung Ventures both maintain strong Israeli deep-tech pipelines) though several historical investments (Mars Auto in South Korea, Coupang, Klaytn, Korbit) reflect the partners' Asia-Pacific network from their prior funds.
