JMoon Ventures Research
Investment Thesis
JMoon Ventures is an early-stage venture firm that leads Seed investments in Physical AI companies operating in the USA or Canada. Managing Partner Jasmeet Singh, who goes by BeardedMaker, says he coined the term Physical AI in 2023. The firm defines it as AI-powered hardware that interacts, learns and adapts in real time: embodied intelligence, robots and humanoids, appliances learning on the edge, XR that improves efficiency, and personalized wearables. The thesis is that AI models embedded in hardware will create ubiquitous computing that reshapes labor, productivity and everyday life. Singh argues that much of the R&D has been done, manufacturing costs have fallen over the last decade, and the market is now timed for mass adoption. In a June 2026 essay the firm argues that the old hardware risks are largely gone.
Focus Areas
The site names four verticals. Robots covers intelligent robots, humanoids, swarms, social robots, smart logistics and self-driving. IoT covers edge AI, smart home, Industry 4.0 and intelligent appliances. Wearables covers haptic systems, bio prosthetics, personal health, brain-computer interfaces and wearable computers. XR covers holograms, digital twins, spatial computing and CAD to print. Target end markets include agriculture, retail, health, eldercare, logistics, energy, construction, manufacturing, hospitality, entertainment and climate. Singh has said he is especially interested in agriculture, construction, medical and sustainability, and in robots and IoT in public-facing settings such as retail and hospitality.
Stage Focus and Seed Definition
The firm leads Seed rounds. It defines Seed by its own metrics, starting with a $5M to $15M valuation, and prefers companies near product-market fit with tech-derisked prototypes, evidence of early users, and a clear manufacturing and pricing roadmap. Singh looks for BOM stability, production processes, MOQ impact and manufacturing and distribution partners. He encourages founders to charge early, even during pilots, and to use non-dilutive capital such as government grants to reach Seed. Check size and fund size are not published on the site.
Lead Tendency
The site says the firm leads with conviction and leads in value add: protecting the moat with operators, improving go-to-market, and optimizing CapEx through operational, non-dilutive and follow-on funding.
Recent Activity
The firm's public Substack began in early 2026 with investment write-ups titled Why I invested (Orangewood, Brysk, Ryse) and Why I didn't invest (Haply, Acrylic, Nimo Planet, Rabbit R1). LinkedIn lists Singh at JMoon Ventures from June 2026. The firm hosted a Physical AI Investor Mixer at Deep Tech Week SF in June 2026 aimed at angels and family offices, and its email invites LPs to request fund details, so it appears to be raising its first fund. No fund size, close or dated deal announcements were found.
Portfolio Highlights
The site lists Orangewood Labs (AI robot arm) and Brysk AI (autonomous retail). The firm's writing also cites Ryse, a smart-curtain automation device Singh first saw at a Toronto pitch event in 2019. Singh's earlier angel investing spans YC, Techstars, 7percent Ventures, Hustle Fund, Plug and Play and others, alongside angels such as Tim Draper and Kevin O'Leary.
Team
Jasmeet Singh is Managing Partner, robotics-obsessed since 2004, founder of JMoon Technologies (a consumer robotics company, exited), an investor since 2011, and a former incubator director. Derek Bartoschek is Venture Partner (Principal in training). Bob MacBean is CFO with 25 years in private equity M&A. Dr. William Chai is an advisor and early investor in TSMC and Foxconn. Manu Shandal is a tax consultant with 20 years of US and Canada experience.
Decision Process
Decisions appear to be driven by Singh as sole decision-maker, with an advisory bench. Process posts cover internal processes, a deal memo format and LP onboarding.
Founder Preferences
Singh backs vision-driven, resilient, multidisciplinary teams with strong ethics, clear communication, deep customer understanding and coachability. He steps away from founders who lack coachability or do not understand their customers, or who show weak ethics or poor team dynamics. He wants a 10x improvement over current behavior and early validation through pilots or crowdfunding.
Geographic Focus
Business operations and customers must be in the USA or Canada. The firm has offices in Palo Alto and Toronto. Singh sees the US as a better environment for robotics fundraising than the more risk-averse Canadian market.
