K2 Global Research
Investment Thesis
K2 Global is a solo-GP venture capital firm founded in 2015 by Ozi Amanat, built around identifying and taking concentrated positions in category-defining technology companies before they become widely recognized. The firm's newest vehicle, the K2 Global AI Fund ($200M, announced August 2026), sharpens this into an explicit thesis: "many of the defining companies of the next decade will emerge at the intersection of intelligence, compute, and the physical world." The fund targets large language models, autonomous systems, humanoid robotics, defense technology, compute infrastructure, semiconductors, brain-computer interfaces, and preventive healthcare. K2 describes its objective as partnering "with exceptional founders building enduring, category-defining platforms with global impact." Historically, the firm has cast a wider net across internet, software, and technology-enabled companies "from seed to growth," rather than staying confined to a single vertical.
Stage Focus
K2 Global's own homepage states it invests "from seed to growth." Third-party trackers (Superscout) describe the firm as open to Seed, Seed+, and Series A, with occasional participation at later stages as portfolio companies mature, implied by its continued positions in now-public companies like Coinbase and Airbnb. The new AI Fund is described as making "early-stage investments" with "concentrated positions," suggesting a continued seed-to-Series-A center of gravity even as check sizes grow with the larger fund.
Check Size
Third-party aggregation (AngelsPartners) lists a historical investment range of $100K-$5M with an approximate $1.5M sweet spot, drawn from the Fund I era ($183M, closed 2017). The 2026 AI Fund's emphasis on "concentrated positions" in fewer, larger bets suggests per-company checks may now run higher, but no updated public check-size range was found; treat the $100K-$5M range as directional rather than current.
Lead Tendency
Evidence is mixed. K2 was the lead investor in Paktor's $32.5M round (October 2016), an early Southeast Asian deal. However, its now-famous positions in SpaceX, Palantir, Coinbase, Airbnb, Neuralink, and xAI are far more consistent with a non-lead, opportunistic-allocation strategy alongside larger syndicates, given the firm's historical check size relative to those rounds. Overall lead tendency is best described as mixed/opportunistic rather than a consistent lead investor.
Recent Activity
The most significant recent event is the August 2026 close of the K2 Global AI Fund, $200M in capital commitments from entrepreneurs, family offices, foundations, institutional investors, sovereign wealth funds, banks, and strategic operators across the US, Asia, Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East. This follows the firm's original Fund I, which closed at $183M in February 2017 (initially launched 2015), and was among the earlier cross-border funds explicitly built to bridge Asia and Silicon Valley. Public reporting places K2's most recent named investment in Function Health (per Pitchbook, dated November 2025), though a live, independently verifiable source for that exact date could not be confirmed at research time.
Portfolio Highlights
K2 Global's portfolio spans some of the most recognizable frontier-technology brands of the last decade: Neuralink, SpaceX, xAI, OpenAI, Palantir, Shield AI, Tenstorrent, Synchron, Agility Robotics, and Function Health on the frontier-tech/AI side; Coinbase, Bitpay, MoonPay, and TAXbit in crypto/fintech; Spotify, Pinterest, Airbnb, Uber, and Alibaba in consumer internet; and Allbirds, Warby Parker, Oatly, Impossible Foods, and Simulate in consumer/DTC brands. Multiple portfolio companies have completed public exits, including Coinbase (IPO 2021), Airbnb (IPO 2020), Pinterest (IPO 2019), Uber (IPO 2019), Warby Parker (direct listing 2021), Allbirds (IPO 2021), Paytm (IPO 2021), and Oatly (IPO 2021). SendGrid, also a K2 portfolio company, was itself acquired by fellow portfolio company Twilio in 2019.
Team
- Ozi Amanat, Founder - Launched K2 Global in 2015 as a solo venture capitalist; widely described in the press ("Solo VC Ozi Amanat") as running the firm as an individual GP rather than a multi-partner partnership. Personally sourced early positions in Neuralink, SpaceX, Palantir, Spotify, Shield AI, Coinbase, Function Health, Lambda, Airbnb, Uber, Paytm, Pinterest, Allbirds, Warby Parker, Scopely, Agility Robotics, Oatly, and xAI. Harvard-educated; LinkedIn lists K2 Global as his primary operating vehicle.
No other named partners, principals, or investment team members appear on the firm's website; K2 Global operates publicly as a solo-GP shop.
Decision Process
Given the confirmed solo-GP structure, K2 Global's decision process is classified as solo_gp: Ozi Amanat is the sole named investment decision-maker across all public reporting reviewed.
Founder Preferences
K2 explicitly targets "exceptional founders building enduring, category-defining platforms with global impact," with recent emphasis on founders working at the frontier of AI, robotics, compute infrastructure, semiconductors, national security, and healthcare technology.
Geographic Focus
K2 Global was founded to bridge Asia and Silicon Valley, with operating presence across Singapore, Silicon Valley, and (per Crunchbase) Miami. Its limited-partner base is explicitly global: prominent individuals and institutions across Singapore, the United States, India, Indonesia, Japan, Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, and Australia, with the 2026 AI Fund adding backers across Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East. Portfolio companies, however, are overwhelmingly US-headquartered (largely Silicon Valley), with earlier-era exceptions in Southeast Asia (Paktor, TurtleTree) and China (Alibaba).
