Polytechnique Ventures Research
Investment Thesis
Polytechnique Ventures is the alumni-funded seed fund of the École polytechnique. It invests in start-ups that come out of the School's innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem: companies founded by one or more alumni (engineering degree, Bachelor, Master, Exed or PhD), companies incubated at the School (incubator, nursery, prototyping lab), and companies spun out of the School's laboratories. The stated priority is ambitious deep tech teams able to transform the industrial sectors they target. Selection criteria are the quality of the founding team, the uniqueness of the technology, the company's development potential and its societal contribution.
Stage Focus
The fund finances pre-seed, seed and Series A companies. Its main strategy is seed and Series A. A side strategy, the Denis Lucquin Catalyst Initiative, is dedicated to pre-seed. It tries to follow on in later rounds and can exceptionally join a Series B.
Check Size
The firm's own FAQ gives two ranges:
- Pre-seed (Denis Lucquin Catalyst Initiative): EUR 50K to EUR 200K
- Seed and Series A: EUR 500K to EUR 1M
- Follow-on capacity up to EUR 3M invested per company in total
Third-party profiles describe initial tickets of EUR 250K to EUR 1M for Fund II; the website figures are used for the structured fields.
Lead Tendency
The fund prefers co-investing alongside professional early-stage VCs. It does not rule out leading, but says leading is not its first vocation. A Jimini co-founder's testimonial on the homepage says the fund led Jimini's seed round, so the lead tendency is recorded as both.
Recent Activity
Fund I (EUR 36M) made 18 investments. Fund II is raising: a EUR 21M first close was reported, and a later report puts it at about EUR 28M against a EUR 30M to EUR 40M target, to back 15 to 20 start-ups. Recent portfolio entries listed on the site include Gobano Robotics (pre-seed, April 2025), BYoRNA (pre-seed, March 2025), OneBiosciences (Series A, May 2025) and VSora (Series A, May 2025). Fund status is treated as actively deploying.

Decision Process
The team decides with the help of an advisory committee of VC professionals (ISAI, Auriga Partners, Iris Capital, Tikehau Capital, Seven2, Partech Impact) that meets start-ups under consideration, and a strategic committee that oversees conflicts of interest and investment policy. Decision process is recorded as partnership.
Founder Preferences
Founders tied to the School: alumni, lab spin-outs or incubated teams, with differentiated technology and ambitious strategies. The fund offers campus access, the incubator and Fab Lab, an alumni mentor network and early-stage financing rigor. Half of the team's carried interest goes to the École polytechnique Foundation.
Geographic Focus
France and Europe first, but start-ups based elsewhere are possible if tied to the School. The fund is managed by IQEQ Management and based at 12 rue de Poitiers, Paris.
Gaps
The site's news page was too large to read in full and was not used. Assets under management are not stated on the site and are left unset because the two funds are in euros and the fund II size is still moving. Portfolio company domains were not resolved except VSora.
