SEGO Venture Research
Investment Thesis
SEGO Venture is the venture capital / equity crowdfunding line of Grupo SegoFinance, a Madrid-based fintech regulated by Spain's CNMV. Rather than deploying a single GP-managed fund, SEGO Venture curates growth-stage private companies and opens each round to its network of more than 45,000 retail and institutional investors, who receive shares directly and without commissions in exchange for their contribution. The firm's stated mission is to channel capital toward innovative technology and industrial companies, democratizing access to venture-style returns for individual investors who are normally excluded from institutional VC rounds. Since inception, SEGO Venture has helped channel more than EUR150 million into portfolio companies.
Sector Focus
SEGO Venture is a generalist platform rather than a single-thesis fund. Publicly documented deals span:
- Aerospace and space technology (PLD Space)
- Biotechnology and cosmetic active ingredients (Vytrus Biotech, Bioo)
- Clean energy / bio-generated power (Bioo)
- Electric mobility and battery storage (Endurance Motive)
- AI-driven neuroscience and marketing analytics (Neurologyca)
- Hospitality SaaS (Fideltour)
- Food and beverage (East Crema Coffee)
- Fintech and real estate-adjacent lending (Drimer, via SEGO's broader group)
Stage Focus
SEGO Venture's deal flow ranges unusually wide for a single platform: some rounds are early growth raises in the low hundreds of thousands of euros (Fideltour's EUR300K round, The Sampling Solutions' EUR530K round), while others are growth/pre-listing raises for companies that go on to list on BME Growth (Vytrus Biotech, Endurance Motive, Energy Solar Tech, Iflex). This reflects the platform's crowdfunding model, where SEGO curates and vets a deal internally, then opens it to the crowd rather than writing a single fixed-size institutional check.
Check Size
Because SEGO Venture aggregates capital from thousands of individual investors rather than writing one check from a managed fund, "check size" is better understood as total round size raised through the platform. Observed round sizes range from roughly EUR300,000 (Fideltour) to a cumulative EUR10 million channeled into PLD Space over three years. AUM/assets facilitated through the venture line is estimated at approximately $40M (per third-party investor-profile data), though total historical capital deployed across the platform's lifetime exceeds EUR150M.
Lead Tendency
SEGO Venture does not fit the traditional "leads vs. follows" framework used by institutional VCs. It typically structures and curates the round itself (sometimes alongside co-investors, e.g. Sama Capital in Neurologyca's EUR2.9M round) and then syndicates participation out to its retail investor base. This is best classified as unknown/not applicable under standard lead-tendency taxonomy.
Recent Activity
- PLD Space: cumulative EUR10M channeled from thousands of individual investors over the past three years, reported March 2026.
- Neurologyca: EUR2.9M round alongside co-investor Sama Capital.
- Fideltour: EUR300K round for a hospitality SaaS platform.
- The Sampling Solutions: EUR530K raised via crowdfunding campaign.
- Vytrus Biotech: portfolio company listed on BME Growth (March 2022), debut share price implying a EUR12.2M valuation.
- Endurance Motive: portfolio company listed on BME Growth (2021).
Portfolio Highlights
Notable portfolio/investment relationships include PLD Space (Spanish reusable-rocket launch company, successful MIURA 1 launch October 2023), Bioo (bio-battery/biotech "smart cities" company recognized by the European Parliament as one of Europe's most innovative companies), Neurologyca (neuroscience-based marketing research consultancy), Vytrus Biotech (plant stem-cell cosmetic actives, listed BME Growth), Endurance Motive (lithium battery systems for electric mobility, listed BME Growth), Energy Solar Tech and Iflex (both later BME Growth listings), Fideltour, East Crema Coffee, The Sampling Solutions, and Drimer.
Team
- Javier Villaseca Sánchez — Founder and CEO of Grupo SegoFinance. Founded the predecessor platform (SociosInversores.com) as a young entrepreneur and has grown the group into Spain's leading alternative-investment marketplace.
- Eduardo Sánchez Morrondo — President.
- Sergio Valcárcel Ramírez — Director of Operations.
- Laura Pueblas Fernández — Head of Asset Management / Investor Relations.
Decision Process
Deals are sourced and vetted by SEGO's internal investment/operations team before being structured and opened to the platform's retail and institutional investor base — closer to an internal investment-committee model than a solo-GP or classic partnership vote, since the "check" ultimately comes from the crowd rather than a small partner group.
Founder Preferences
Public deal write-ups suggest SEGO favors companies with a clear, story-friendly growth narrative that resonates with retail investors (space technology, biotech, EVs, sustainability) and that are far enough along to support an equity-crowdfunding raise (working product, some revenue or clear technical milestones, e.g. PLD Space's rocket launches or Vytrus's revenue growth ahead of its BME Growth listing).
Geographic Focus
Overwhelmingly Spain-focused (Madrid HQ; portfolio companies based in Elche, Vitoria, Valencia, Barcelona and other Spanish hubs), consistent with its CNMV-regulated, Spain-domestic retail investor base.
