Izertis Ventures Research
Investment Thesis
Izertis Ventures is the corporate venture capital arm of Grupo Izertis, a publicly listed (BME:IZER) Spanish technology consultancy headquartered in Gijón, Asturias. Founded in 2015 by Izertis founder and chairman Pablo Martín Rodríguez, the vehicle exists to "build an extended innovation ecosystem" around the parent group: it backs ICT-adjacent startups that are strategically relevant to Izertis's core consulting, digital-transformation, and technology-services business, while also functioning as a financial-diversification vehicle for the group. Unlike a traditional financial-return-only fund, Izertis Ventures explicitly ties portfolio selection to strategic alignment with the Group's operations — investees often become technology partners, pilot customers, or channel partners of Izertis S.A. itself.
Stage Focus
Izertis Ventures invests across a mixed-stage strategy: it takes direct early-stage (pre-seed/seed) positions in ICT startups, and also gains indirect exposure to more advanced-stage companies through structured investment vehicles it participates in, including the micro-VC manager Alantis Capital and the fund Kepler Ventures (through which it is a shareholder of the DaD incubator and Centio Seed Capital). Collectively these vehicles give Izertis Ventures exposure to a portfolio of 40+ startups beyond its ~12 direct, named holdings.
Check Size
Public disclosure is limited. One third-party source (Startupxplore) cites indirect ticket sizes in the €10,000–€100,000 range per startup via structured vehicles; the firm's own materials do not publish a check-size range, and its overall strategy is described by third parties as "not public." Given the conflicting and low-confidence signal, no checkSize range is being asserted in the structured payload.
Lead Tendency
Available evidence points to a co-investor / syndicate participant posture rather than a lead investor. In its confirmed 2026 investment in FuVeX, Izertis Ventures participated alongside SODENA, SEGO Venture, and multiple family offices — it was not identified as the round's lead. Historical portfolio composition also shows frequent syndication with partners such as Alva House Capital, DN Capital, and ENISA (Spain's public entrepreneurship-financing agency).
Recent Activity
- August 2026: Portfolio company FuVeX (long-range/dual-use inspection drones) raised an oversubscribed €3M round with participation from Izertis Ventures, SODENA, SEGO Venture, and family offices, to scale drone-based power-grid inspection and defence operations across Europe.
- August 2026: Portfolio company HappyRobot (agentic AI for logistics/freight) closed a $150M Series C at a $1.2B valuation, co-led by Prysm Capital and Eurazeo, with participation from Bankinter, Kfund, Koch Disruptive Technologies, Orange, and T Capital. Izertis Ventures is not named among the Series C investor group but HappyRobot remains a flagship holding the firm features prominently on its own site.
- No new-fund announcements, partner changes, or thesis essays were found in public sources during the research window; the firm maintains a low public-communications profile relative to institutional VCs.
Portfolio Highlights

- IENAI Space — Madrid deep-tech startup building electric-propulsion (electrospray) systems and mission-simulation software for small satellites; raised €3.9M in its most recent disclosed round (2024) with Inveready, GED Conexo Ventures, and others.

Beyond these direct holdings, Izertis Ventures' fund-of-funds-style exposure through Alantis Capital and Kepler Ventures reportedly touches 40+ additional startups, including names cited in third-party trackers such as Ludo Studios, WeDoctor, Nessmeeting, Mectia, Tu Cycle, Sibox, Shipeer, and Stampy — though the firm's role in each of these is indirect and unconfirmed at the check level.
Team
- Pablo Martín Rodríguez — President / Chairman. Founder and CEO of Grupo Izertis (BME:IZER), the parent technology-consultancy group; has led Izertis Ventures since its founding in 2015 and is described as an active early-stage investor with 50+ investments through the vehicle.
- Sheila Méndez Núñez — Director of Operations. Also holds the title Director of Digital Transformation and Innovation at Izertis S.A. Background in systems engineering and soft computing/data analysis (University of Oviedo); 15+ years in ICT research and innovation roles, with domain focus spanning blockchain, data, AI, IoT, computer vision, mixed reality, and NLP — the same technical lens applied to portfolio selection.
No additional named investment-team members (principals, associates) were identified in public sources; the vehicle appears to run lean, leaning on Izertis Group's broader corporate-development function.
Decision Process
Not publicly documented. Given the corporate-venture structure and the small, named leadership team (a Chairman/CEO of the parent group plus a Director of Operations), decisions likely run through a small internal group tied to Grupo Izertis's leadership rather than a formal investment committee — best characterized as informal partnership-style governance, though this is inferred rather than confirmed.
Founder Preferences
Public materials do not articulate explicit founder criteria. Inferred from portfolio composition: founders building ICT-adjacent products with plausible synergy to Izertis's consulting/digital-transformation client base (AI, automation, data, fintech infrastructure), predominantly Spanish or Spanish-market-facing teams.
Geographic Focus
Overwhelmingly Spain-based: portfolio companies cluster around Asturias (Izertis's home region), the Basque Country/San Sebastián, Barcelona, Madrid, and Navarra, with select exposure to Latin America via Ábaco. No evidence of investment activity outside the Spanish-speaking world.
