Sovereign's Capital Research
Investment Thesis
Sovereign's Capital is a faith-driven, multi-strategy investment firm founded in 2012 by Luke Roush and headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, with additional offices in Chattanooga and Nashville, Tennessee, and Jakarta, Indonesia. The firm's stated mission is to "love God and love our neighbor through investing" by providing capital and strategic partnership to companies and funds led by faith-driven teams that have the potential for outsized returns and impact. As of June 2024, the firm managed more than $780 million in assets across five practice areas: private equity, venture capital, public equity, real estate, and fund-of-funds/co-investing, plus a business consulting group for founders navigating succession and culture questions.
The Venture Capital team, led by Managing Partner Jake Thomsen, invests in Seed and Series A technology companies operating in the U.S. and Southeast Asia. The team looks for gritty, creative founders who are obsessive about internal culture and their customers, building companies in growing markets with defensible economic moats (network effects, data advantages, sticky customers). The team invests where it has direct operational experience or expertise: B2B and B2C software, healthtech, deep tech, and tech-enabled services.
Stage Focus
The Venture Capital team focuses on Seed and Series A rounds, with occasional pre-seed participation for exceptional faith-driven founders (e.g., its December 2025 co-lead of Ciphero's pre-seed). It closed its largest-ever venture fund (Fund III) in July 2024, after beginning fundraising in August 2022 and holding a first close of roughly $25 million in March 2023.
Check Size
The firm deploys $300,000 to $4 million per investment, and leads rounds when its operator experience overlaps with the target's industry; otherwise it participates alongside other institutional investors.
Lead Tendency
Mixed. Sovereign's Capital co-led Ciphero's $2.5 million pre-seed round in December 2025 alongside Chingona Ventures, but participated (non-lead) in Level3 AI's $13 million seed round in January 2026, which was led by Lightspeed Venture Partners. The firm's own language ("we lead rounds when our operator experience overlaps with an industry") signals selective, expertise-driven leads rather than a default lead posture.
Recent Activity
Fund III (closed July 2024, its largest venture vehicle to date) is actively deploying. Recent disclosed investments:
- January 2026: Participated in Level3 AI's $13M seed round (Singapore-based AI customer-engagement platform), alongside Lightspeed, BEENEXT, 500 Global, and Goodwater Capital.
- December 2025: Co-led Ciphero's $2.5M oversubscribed pre-seed round (AI verification/security layer) alongside Chingona Ventures.

Founder Preferences
The firm's "Target Company" framework looks for: team-first faith-driven leaders with deep domain expertise and grit; defensible differentiators (technological barriers, long-term customer relationships, dominant market share); growth-minded, capital-efficient business models; thriving internal cultures that delight employees, customers, and stakeholders; and leaders with a consistent track record of professional and personal success.
Geographic Focus
Primarily the United States and Southeast Asia (notably Indonesia and Singapore, reflecting the firm's Jakarta office and portfolio concentration in Indonesian fintech and logistics).
