Demos Capital Research
Investment Thesis
Demos is a category accelerator with a venture fund built into the model. It works inside technically ambitious startups to define the category, build the brand, and turn breakthrough technology into a market that investors, customers, partners, and talent can see. The fund, called The New Economy Fund, invests in early-stage companies building foundational technologies that can create entirely new sources of value, across computation, biology, energy, materials, manufacturing, robotics, and sensing.
The firm's stated sequence is "first the work, then the conviction, then the capital." The accelerator engagement is the diligence. Demos only decides whether to invest after working with the founders directly.
Stage Focus
Typically Pre-Seed through Series A, and always selective. Most companies enter through the accelerator before any investment decision.
Check Size
Demos receives $100K in equity for a focused acceleration engagement. When a company earns conviction, the fund can invest an additional $200K to $400K. The site states that investment is not guaranteed. Total exposure per company is therefore roughly $300K to $500K.
Lead Tendency
Demos writes small checks alongside an accelerator engagement and appears to follow rather than lead priced rounds. In Satlyt's $8M seed (announced 2026-10-01), non sibi ventures led and Demos was a portfolio-company participant. Lead tendency is recorded as follows.
Recent Activity
- Satlyt announced an $8M seed on 2026-10-01, led by non sibi ventures with TLCOM, Antler, Slauson & Co., Launch Africa Ventures, and Enza Capital participating. Satlyt is a Demos portfolio company building virtual data centers in space.
- The website lists 14 companies, 9 in the portfolio and 5 currently in acceleration (MIMiC Systems, Anto Bio, CPTI, Parallel Carbon, Lobe Labs) with investment decisions pending.
- The firm site refers to Fund III. Fund size is not published.

Decision Process
A partnership of five general partners. Brandon Small leads investment discipline. The decision follows the acceleration engagement, so it is informed by months of direct work with the founders.
Founder Preferences
Technically ambitious founders creating capabilities that did not previously exist, approaching a raise, launch, or strategic inflection point, able to create a market larger than the product, and ready for senior people to work directly inside the company.
Geographic Focus
Demos is based in Minneapolis, grown out of the Zeus Jones agency (founded 2007). It reported closing a first $1.5M round at the end of 2021. The portfolio is not geographically restricted and appears US-centric.
Gaps
Fund size, AUM, and exact fund vintages are not published. Portfolio company domains were not given on the portfolio page, so they are left null.
