Oxonian Ventures Research
Investment Thesis
Oxonian Ventures is an all-alumni early-stage venture fund that invests only in companies founded by University of Oxford alumni, using capital from Oxford alumni and affiliated institutions. The firm is an independent alumni-led initiative and is not part of the University of Oxford. Its stated goals are to let Oxford alumni take part in building the future of Oxford innovation, to give them an early-stage investing opportunity exclusive to alumni, and to produce attractive returns. The pitch to LPs leans on an alma-mater relationship between founder and investor, which the firm says raises the odds of success.
Firm History
The firm began in 2016 as the Oxford Angel Fund, launched by Oxford Entrepreneurs of the Bay to invest in Bay Area companies with an Oxford connection. Fund II reached a final close in January 2022. In July 2024 the firm announced the first close of its $15M Oxford Alumni Venture Fund III and rebranded as Oxonian Ventures, shifting from angel-style checks to pre-seed, seed and Series A investing. It is based in Palo Alto, CA. The site cites 3 funds, 30+ portfolio companies and 90+ Oxonian investors.
Stage Focus
Fund III invests at pre-seed and seed, with follow-on investment in Series A. The fund is described as a diversified portfolio of 40 to 50 US-based early-stage ventures.
Check Size
The firm does not publish a check size. Given a $15M target fund and 40 to 50 planned companies including follow-ons, initial checks are likely well under $500K. This is an inference and is held at low confidence.
Lead Tendency
Not stated. With small checks and a syndicate-style alumni vehicle, the firm most likely participates alongside other investors. Recorded as unknown.
Recent Activity
Fund III is open to US accredited investors who studied at Oxford, including through 401K and donor-advised fund routes. In February 2025 the firm added Heather Preston, a healthcare investor, as General Partner. Newer portfolio entries on the site include Motives.ai, Parsewise.ai and Plexe.ai (all founded 2025) and Conductor Quantum, Ligo Biosciences (2024). PitchBook shows Valink Therapeutics as the latest investment, in October 2025.
Portfolio Highlights
The portfolio is heavy in biotech and life sciences (AOA Dx, biotx.ai, ExcepGen, Granza Bio, Rancho Santa Fe Bio, Valink Therapeutics, Probably Genetic, Bluumbio), with a growing AI and software group (Plexe.ai, Parsewise.ai, Louisa, Motives.ai, PingThings, Conductor Quantum) and a fintech group (CNote, Uprise, The Beans, Going Merry). Exits listed on the site: DocuVision (acquired by OneTrust, 2020), Going Merry (acquired by Earnest, 2021) and Rainmakers (acquired by Hirewell, 2022).

Decision Process
Four general partners manage the fund, so decisions are most likely made by partnership. Founders apply through a Gust application form. Warm introductions are not stated as required.
Founder Preferences
Founders must have studied at the University of Oxford. There is no restriction on discipline, and the firm highlights alumni from many intellectual disciplines. Companies should be US-based and geographically distributed across the US.
Geographic Focus
US-based companies only, founded by Oxford alumni, with a Bay Area origin. Portfolio companies are spread across the US.
