Position Ventures Research
Investment Thesis
Position Ventures is a small San Francisco early-stage fund founded in 2021 by Jenny He, who spent her career working with founders on positioning and communications strategy before becoming an investor. The firm's pitch is that "your story is your strategy": in a crowded market, founders who can state clearly what they do and why it matters hire, raise and partner better. Position invests in early-stage startups and pairs its capital with hands-on help on messaging, narrative and communications. The fund is sector-agnostic on paper, but the portfolio leans toward software and AI, with a smaller set of consumer, crypto, hardware and robotics companies.
Stage Focus
Pre-seed and seed are the core, with occasional participation in Series A and later rounds alongside larger leads. Third-party trackers list 34 investments, roughly half at seed, about a quarter at Series A, and a handful at pre-seed. Recent rounds include Lemma (pre-seed, August 2026), Nova (seed, May 2026) and Anvil Robotics (seed, April 2026).
Check Size
findfunding.vc lists checks of up to $250K and a latest fund, Position Ventures II, of about $5.5M raised in 2026. That figure comes from a single aggregator and should be treated as low confidence. The round sizes Position takes part in range from about $2M at pre-seed and seed to $10M to $48M at Series A.
Lead Tendency
Position almost always participates rather than leads. The Venture Codex records all nine tracked rounds as participated, with leads such as Accel (Nova), Matter Venture Partners (Anvil Robotics), Gradient Ventures (Patlytics, Shypyard), Reach Capital (WorkWhile), Union Square Ventures and KB Partners (Stadium Live), and Multicoin and Paradigm (Fractal). Frequent co-investors include Liquid 2 Ventures (four shared deals), 6th Man Ventures, Alumni Ventures, Andreessen Horowitz, Gaingels and Gradient Ventures.
Recent Activity
Activity continues into 2026: Anvil Robotics (April), Nova (May) and Lemma (August). The fund appears to be deploying from a small second fund. The earlier 2022 to 2024 cluster includes Fractal, WorkWhile, Stadium Live Studios, CreatorDAO, Shypyard and Patlytics.
Portfolio Highlights
The website lists about 32 companies, including Sesame (voice AI), Twelve Labs (video understanding), Anrok (sales tax automation), Accordance (AI for tax and audit teams), Lantern (medical imaging AI), Patlytics (AI patent analytics), Cartesia (voice models), Nova (agentic AI for SAP teams), Fractal, WorkWhile, Paramark (marketing measurement), Regrello, Pine (digital mortgages), Swiftlane, Lavender (AI sales email coaching), Ubiquity6 and Persona AI. Notable named exits were not found in public sources.
Team
Jenny He is Founder and General Partner. The website shows no other investing staff, so Position appears to be a solo-GP fund. Justin Kan, co-founder of Twitch, is quoted on the site as a founder reference who called Jenny the first investor he phoned for his new company. Her profiles are linkedin.com/in/jennyhe and x.com/jennydhe.
Decision Process
With a single GP, decisions look like a solo-GP process and likely move quickly, but no timeline is published. Because Position follows rather than leads, a lead investor with a priced round is probably a prerequisite.
Founder Preferences
Founders who care about narrative, positioning and communications and who will use Jenny's hands-on help on messaging, hiring and fundraising stories. The site highlights repeat founders and first-time founders alike, and the portfolio skews to technical founders building AI products.
Geographic Focus
Primarily United States, with 62 percent of tracked deals in the US, plus Canada, Peru and the Netherlands. Headquartered in San Francisco, California.
Gaps
No published fund size, exact check size, or thesis beyond the homepage. Fund and check figures come from aggregators and are low confidence.
