WEH Ventures Research
Investment Thesis
WEH Ventures is a high-conviction, early-stage venture fund based in Mumbai, India. Its stated pitch is that it backs "category creators" early, when ideas sound impossible and the market does not yet exist. The firm's own case studies illustrate the idea: Jar created the automatic micro-investing category in India, Smallcase built the thematic investing market, MasterChow created a market for authentic ready-to-cook Asian food at home, and AppsForBharat consolidated fragmented devotional content into one spiritual app. The firm says it is drawn to founders who ask hard questions, take unconventional paths and show relentless curiosity rather than pedigree or polished pitches.
In 2026 the firm announced the first close of Fund III and said its focus is moving from software, consumer and fintech into the physical economy: advanced manufacturing, agriculture, robotics, energy transition, healthcare and AI, while keeping consumer and fintech.
Stage Focus
Pre-seed and seed. The website describes pre-seed as idea-stage support for founders with a spark who need direction, and seed as hands-on partnership to help companies scale. Partner Rohit Krishna describes entry as post-product when the founder is not the first entrant in the market, or pre-product when they are.
Check Size
The website states cheques of $150K to $500K. Rohit Krishna's public bio cites an average cheque of about $500K. Follow-on support is available depending on how the founder wants to build.
Lead Tendency
Not stated publicly. The firm talks about founder dinners, sector deep-dives and being hands-on, but does not say whether it leads rounds. Marked unknown.
Recent Activity
Fund III first close was reported in late September / early October 2026. Coverage describes a target corpus of about INR 250 crore (roughly $28M; one outlet reports $26M and another $34M), 20 to 25 early-stage Indian companies, and a full close expected by mid-2027. The fund has reportedly committed to eight investments, including Fragaria (advanced horticulture), Praan Health and PlayBlue (sports retail). Fund III LPs include Nordic fund-of-funds Play Capital, family offices Eraya, Twin & Bull Investments and Heritage Investments, and executives from Oziva, GS Labs, Thermax, Haleon, Lenovo, PNB MetLife, Arlo and Intuitive Surgical.
Track Record and Portfolio Highlights
Founded in 2017. Fund I (2017) has reportedly returned 1.4x. Fund II (2020) is reported at a 29% IRR by one outlet; the firm's site cites a 20% net IRR for Fund II rated by CRISIL against a median of 11.3%, so figures differ by source. Smallcase is the headline exit (2025). The website claims about 50 portfolio companies have raised follow-on capital from other VCs and about 320 in cumulative capital raised by the portfolio (units not given); press reports cite more than $400M raised and a 75% follow-on rate.
The portfolio page lists 29 companies across fintech (Smallcase, Jar, Draconic, Infino), consumer and brands (MasterChow, Noto, Flent, Knot, Charcoal, Henry & Smith), agri-tech (Animall, Fragaria, Hectar), health (Med Mitra, Clinikk), robotics and AI (Unbox Robotics, Segmind), insurance (Mitigata), sustainability (Sustvest, Infinity Box), industrial (Magma), gaming (StellarPlay, Time Pass) and content (Pratilipi, AppsForBharat). Several are marked exited or inactive.

Decision Process
Partnership. The firm describes "ego-free decision making" where the team debates and challenges assumptions and moves forward with complete conviction. Every relationship starts with a conversation rather than a deck review, and the firm is happy to jam on ideas before a deal exists. It says it invests in lines, not dots, preferring to watch founders build and iterate during the pitch cycle. Warm intro is not required; there is an open pitch form.
Founder Preferences
Teams passionate about their problem, resilient through challenges and honest about their blind spots. No checklist or template. Founders with unconventional backgrounds who think from first principles, and who are building categories that do not yet exist.
Geographic Focus
India, including companies building for customers in India and abroad. The firm hosts founder dinners and sector deep-dives to build a community of portfolio founders.
