Innova Research
Investment Thesis
Innova (Innova.ag, formerly Innova Memphis) is an early-stage venture firm that now invests exclusively in AgTech and FarmTech. Its pitch is "innovations farmers actually want": technology that visibly improves a farm's economics. The firm writes the first institutional check and stays hands-on, taking board seats, helping build the team, and developing pricing and go-to-market strategy. The thesis narrows to four problems: Inputs (seed, feed, nutrition, crop protection, biologicals, vaccines that improve outcomes at a positive ROI within a year), Labor (robotics and autonomy for dangerous, repetitive or unstaffable work, judged by whether the machine survives a real season), On-farm data (sensors and instruments capturing ground truth in the field, bin and barn rather than inferring it from satellites), and Actionable reports (software that produces a decision a grower can act on, not a dashboard). The firm notes dual-use ideas from human medicine or defense can fit agriculture.
Stage Focus
Pre-seed, seed and Series A. Innova is frequently the first institutional money in and is comfortable being the first call. Earlier funds (I to III, 2007 to 2016) invested across healthcare, technology and agriculture, and the legacy portfolio of roughly 127 companies spans MedTech, software, hard tech, biotech and logistics, but new capital goes only into AgTech and FarmTech.
Check Size
The website quotes $100K to $250K at seed and $1M to $2.5M at Series A, with reserves for companies that work. The homepage cites an initial check range of $250K to $2M. The firm reports $40M invested across 39 AgTech companies, and $73M deployed across 134 startups overall since 2007, which has drawn more than $200M of follow-on capital.
Lead Tendency
Press coverage shows Innova leading rounds: it led the $2.8M iYOTAH round (Feb 2024), the $2.4M Insignum AgTech seed (Sep 2025), and the $2.3M Lilac Agriculture seed (Sep 2026). It also participates in rounds led by others (for example Soiltech Wireless and HerdDogg follow-ons). Rated both, leaning lead.
Recent Activity
Ag Innovation Fund VI is the current vehicle: a $45M fund investing in AgTech and FarmTech at seed and Series A. It reached a $40M first close in June 2023 (taking capital under management past $100M), and AGCO Ventures made its first investment in the fund in May 2024. Limited partners are largely Farm Credit institutions (CoBank, AgriBank, Compeer, Farm Credit Mid-America and others) plus AGCO Ventures. Recent deals include Lilac Agriculture (Sep 2026, first ag biologicals investment), Insignum AgTech (Sep 2025), AGRITX seed follow-on (Feb 2026), iYOTAH (Feb 2024), Soiltech Wireless (Mar 2024) and HerdDogg (Mar 2024). The fund is actively deploying.

Founder Preferences
A defensible technical advantage, a founder who has spent real time with farmers, and a product whose value shows up in a farm's economics rather than only in a pitch deck. The firm skips consumer food brands, farmland funds, and technology looking for an agricultural problem to attach itself to.
Geographic Focus
United States with a genuine preference for rural and underserved markets. Innova holds a USDA Rural Business Investment Company license. Offices are in Austin, TX and Memphis, TN; portfolio companies sit in Iowa, Nebraska, Mississippi, Washington and Illinois, among other places.
